We had a meal in this restaurant on our final night in Marrakech. We ate on the main floor rather than rooftop to escape the Moroccan heat. The dining area is a very attractive space, very authentic looking and in fact historic. The restaurant appeared in an Alfred Hitchcock film in the late 50s and still retains that historic charm. As a group of six, we had various dishes and no one was disappointed. I highly recommend that people consider this for one of their dinners. I’d like to highlight the “Moroccan Salad” which arrives as six separate vegetable dishes with bread, all delicious.
To call my experience at Dar Salam magical is inadequate at best. I have longed to visit this place ever since my sister described it to me a decade or so ago. What I imagined and expected was far short from the magnitude of the place. You walk into history with today’s amenities. I worked in hospitality for the better part of a decade, I know when hospitality is genuine and when it’s forced. Once I stepped into D.S I became family. The family that feeds you great food and makes sure you lack of nothing. My children were lost for words and had a million questions, a sign that they are happy and having an engaging time. The iPads had a long break last night. I may need to use AI to help me heighten this review because I’m definitely not doing this place justice. You just need to go and find out for yourselves. Tell them the dude with the cute American-Moroccan kids.
An unforgettable experience from beginning to end. Dar Essalam exceeded every expectation. The ambiance is absolutely magical—elegant, authentic, and full of history. Every room feels like a work of art, and the live music and performances create an atmosphere that is both vibrant and intimate. It truly feels like stepping into the heart of Moroccan hospitality. The food was exceptional. Every dish was beautifully presented, rich in flavor, and prepared with obvious care. From the traditional specialties to the desserts, everything was delicious and generous. What made the evening truly outstanding, however, was the service—especially Yassine. He was warm, attentive, knowledgeable, and effortlessly made every guest feel welcome. His professionalism was matched by genuine kindness, and he anticipated our needs before we even had to ask. He transformed a wonderful dinner into a memorable experience. As someone who deeply values inclusion, I was also touched by how respected and welcomed everyone felt. There was a genuine sense that every guest belonged, regardless of their background. That spirit of openness and hospitality made the evening even more meaningful. If you’re looking for authentic Moroccan cuisine, breathtaking ambiance, impeccable service, and an experience that celebrates warmth and inclusion, Dar Essalam is simply unmatched. A heartfelt thank you to Yassine and the entire team—we’ll be talking about this evening for a long time.
